Tips for mindful eating during the holidays

Mindful eating refers to the process of being able to enjoy the food soulfully and with complete enjoyment. In the hustle of today it is easy to get distracted and take your meal for granted as all the other random things occupy your mind about what you are supposed to do right after eating, or what you just did an hour ago or even reading a book or watching something will surely distract you. So how would one be able to equip mindful eating with healthy diet plan in Dubai? Here’s how:

  • Reflect

This is sort of the similar step as making your prayer and reflecting on what you have and what you are thankful for but in a more practical way. When you sit on your table to eat, reflect about how you are feeling, are you angry, stressed or just plainly hungry? Your feelings and emotions matter a lot and dictate how you eat. Try to be as calmed as possible while having your meals.

  • Take a seat

We know having your meals and foods on the go is the easiest and the simplest way to save time but having food is all about savouring the time. So grab your coffee and take a seat even if it’s only for 5-10 minutes.

  • Let your mind process food

Yes it is true, not only does your body need to process food but so does your mind. When you are surrounded by screens and entertainment around it is nearly impossible to process the time or quantity you took while having your meals.

  • Chew properly

This is one of those things which resist us from enjoying the tastes and textures of food as we are always in a hurry and this is why we just simply gulp down the our meals. Try to chew your food at least 30 times – yes we know it is a little stretch for foods like oatmeal – but try to do it for almost every other food.

  • Process your bite

When we say chew properly we mean to enjoy the taste of the food and think through the flavours by putting down your eating utensils for once. When you have a spoon in your hand, you are already preparing for the next bite unknowingly which shouldn’t be the case.
